Juicing It!

Hello Eveyone!!!

It has been a while since I have been around these neck of the woods. Between caring for two little ones, a husband, a home and working full time sometimes I wonder how I have any time for half of the things I enjoy doing. One thing I make sure I do is prioritize. Making sure I focus on our health and safety first, then everything else follows. I say if we are healthy then we can take on everything else that is thrown our way.

Recently, I have been revaluating my family's health. One of my main focuses is the food we eat. You know that saying "you are what you eat"? It is completely true! I don't know about you, but when I eat something that is not so healthy I feel so sluggish, tired and ridiculously bloated. I notice I just feel sick. With my daughter's allergies and eczema being at an all time high, I realized I really need to do something about what my family is eating.

Often times any illness you have is routed to something you are eating or lack there of. For my daughter Ariana, I learned she has severe eczema due to allergies she has to a variety of foods she consumed on a daily basis. Are you ready for this list? She is allergic to: oats, soybeans, peanut butter, potatoes, eggs and milk. She has a variety of other environmental allergies but I will leave that list for another post. Ariana would break out in hives whenever she came in contact with peanuts but not so much potatoes. However, if I fed her potatoes or oats my pretty girl would get covered in eczema. She has suffered from eczema since she was a newborn and we have been using steroids since then to help her live comfortably without sweating off her skin. I was done with that the moment I learned all the negative side effects those steroids have not only in my wallet (it was no longer covered by our insurance) but also the harmful effects to her health. After discussing it with my husband, we decided to eliminate all these things her body rejects and turn our family to a healthier lifestyle. This lifestyle included using organic foods. Getting rid of all those pesticides that are in most if not all of the fruits and veggies we eat.

Being that Ariana is allergic to what feels to us like everything, I have made it a priority to make those things that are good for her very tasty. One thing we all love around here are our organic smoothies. This morning she really missed having her steal cut oatmeal with big brother, so I made sure to compensate by making her a delicious smoothie after she finished her toast.

Look at that cuteness!!! Seriously though, don't let that cute face fool you she is as feisty as they come haha!!

I don't have a specific recipe smoothie book that I follow. I basically find everything that's in my fridge and fruit basket that is about to go bad and I blend/juice it up. It's an experiment every time. This specific experiment was family approved and consisted of:

2 organic apples
1 organic pear
2 organic small red beats
5 organic small to medium sized carrots
1 organic zucchini
1/2 organic cucumber
2 organic celery sticks
6 organic collard green leafs
4 cubes of frozen mango

This recipe made a total of 64oz of smoothie. Enough for my entire family to enjoy :). Do you have a tried and loved smoothie recipe?

What is that?!!!!

I have been breastfeeding Ariana since day one and due to my over supply I have been going through tons of breast pads. I have searched high and low for a cloth/reusable nursing pad that could sustain my heavy wetness yet not look like in wearing a padded rock under my shirt to no avail. I finally just settled for the lasinoh disposable nursing pads with what I thought was a success. That was until I found pieces of gel on my nipple. That's right, nasty little gel balls. I freaked out thinking that my poor baby has probably been ingesting these for quite some time now. As most moms do, I frantically turned to GOOGLE and started searching for what this could possibly be and from my understanding these crystal gels are super absorbent polymer. I contacted Lasinoh customer service to see what information they can give me, but honestly there is nothing anyone can tell me that will convince me that this gel is safe to ingest. I will keep you guys posted on what I Lasinoh tells me, but in the mean time I'm going to be one momma on a mission. I refuse to wear those disposable nursing pads so let's see what I can come up with. Stay tuned....

It's been a while!!!

Wow, it's been a while since I have blogged or even vlogged. I've been one busy momma for sure! Since I last posted some major life changes have occurred. For one, I had a beautiful daughter in late August. To add to that I started my own home day care AND my out little boutique on the side. I am trying to juggle life and still enjoy and take in everyday as much as I can.

Happy New Year!!!!

I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays. I know I did :). It was Jax's second Christmas and I was stoked for him to actually enjoy opening gifts this year. Well, as for opening gifts.... Dad and I went totally over board. Jax was totally happy opening one gift but he instead got like 20. I will admit it was a bit ridiculous. Arturo and I both agreed that next year we are each just getting him one gift. I think that ours plus the other gifts he gets from family is more than sufficient. He got soooo many toys this year that on July for his birthday I'm going to kindly ask that no one buy him more toys but instead put it towards his college fund.

Question of the day: how much is too much for kids on Christmas?

PS. I hope everyone has a happy happy new year!!!! See everyone in 2012 :D

Christmas

This will be our second family as a family of three! It's so exciting because this time around Jaxson will actually enjoy unwrapping gifts and have a blast with all his toys. Tomorrow we will have our third annual family gathering at our house and I'm looking forward to lots of food and good family time. Hope everyone has an amazing holiday full of love, health and wealth.

Egg Allergy

From pregnancy I always knew that Jaxson was at a higher risk for allergies due to family history, but I really wasn’t expecting for him to have an egg allergy. For his first birthday, I made Jax's cake, (I used box cake mix and made the fondant myself) so there wasn’t really much egg in it and the egg that was in it was cooked. He ate a bit of it and was totally fine.

Made with so much love!!!!

I have given him hard boiled egg alone to taste in the past and both times he has gotten sick with diarrhea and vomiting. Now on the date of his baptism we had an amazing cake (Thanks Taryn and Xabriel!!!) but it landed it us in the ER. I had a parenting FAIL and didn’t think that having some cake would make him sick. Well, I was WRONG!!! Jax wanted nothing to do with eating the cake which was fine but he had stuck his finger in the frosting and then rubbed it on his face. In a matter of 2 minutes my handsome boy looked like a little swollen toad :(. I quickly grabbed him and ran with Arturo and my brother to the closest ER which was like 1 minute away. We figured that it would take longer for the ambulance to get there than for us to get him to the ER ourselves.
Coconut cake with strawberry filling...yummmmm

I don’t know why Jaxson's reaction to egg is just progressively getting worse :(. Now this brings up a whole new set of worries.... EVERYTHING has eggs. He can have baked goods with a little bit of egg in it, but nothing that has raw eggs in it. After googling 'egg allergy' one of the first things that came up was 'egg allergy and vaccines'. It dawned on me. Some vaccines have some sort of egg in them. I already made Jax's 18 month well visit and am looking forward to asking his pediatrician her thoughts on the matter. I really want to get Jax tested for other allergies seeing that his dad is allergic to an array of things.

Question of the day:
Have you ever had a child that had an allergic reaction to a food or medicine? Are there any questions that I should be asking his pediatrician?
