Juicing It!

Hello Eveyone!!!

It has been a while since I have been around these neck of the woods. Between caring for two little ones, a husband, a home and working full time sometimes I wonder how I have any time for half of the things I enjoy doing. One thing I make sure I do is prioritize. Making sure I focus on our health and safety first, then everything else follows. I say if we are healthy then we can take on everything else that is thrown our way.

Recently, I have been revaluating my family's health. One of my main focuses is the food we eat. You know that saying "you are what you eat"? It is completely true! I don't know about you, but when I eat something that is not so healthy I feel so sluggish, tired and ridiculously bloated. I notice I just feel sick. With my daughter's allergies and eczema being at an all time high, I realized I really need to do something about what my family is eating.

Often times any illness you have is routed to something you are eating or lack there of. For my daughter Ariana, I learned she has severe eczema due to allergies she has to a variety of foods she consumed on a daily basis. Are you ready for this list? She is allergic to: oats, soybeans, peanut butter, potatoes, eggs and milk. She has a variety of other environmental allergies but I will leave that list for another post. Ariana would break out in hives whenever she came in contact with peanuts but not so much potatoes. However, if I fed her potatoes or oats my pretty girl would get covered in eczema. She has suffered from eczema since she was a newborn and we have been using steroids since then to help her live comfortably without sweating off her skin. I was done with that the moment I learned all the negative side effects those steroids have not only in my wallet (it was no longer covered by our insurance) but also the harmful effects to her health. After discussing it with my husband, we decided to eliminate all these things her body rejects and turn our family to a healthier lifestyle. This lifestyle included using organic foods. Getting rid of all those pesticides that are in most if not all of the fruits and veggies we eat.

Being that Ariana is allergic to what feels to us like everything, I have made it a priority to make those things that are good for her very tasty. One thing we all love around here are our organic smoothies. This morning she really missed having her steal cut oatmeal with big brother, so I made sure to compensate by making her a delicious smoothie after she finished her toast.

Look at that cuteness!!! Seriously though, don't let that cute face fool you she is as feisty as they come haha!!

I don't have a specific recipe smoothie book that I follow. I basically find everything that's in my fridge and fruit basket that is about to go bad and I blend/juice it up. It's an experiment every time. This specific experiment was family approved and consisted of:

2 organic apples
1 organic pear
2 organic small red beats
5 organic small to medium sized carrots
1 organic zucchini
1/2 organic cucumber
2 organic celery sticks
6 organic collard green leafs
4 cubes of frozen mango

This recipe made a total of 64oz of smoothie. Enough for my entire family to enjoy :). Do you have a tried and loved smoothie recipe?
